Discover the Aplec de la Sardana 2025 in Calella
Four days of tradition and culture with Calella’s Aplec de la Sardana
From May 29 to June 1, 2025, Calella becomes the capital of the sardana with the 97th edition of the Aplec de la Sardana, also known as l’Aplec Pairal de Catalunya. This event pays tribute to the sardana, Catalonia’s most emblematic dance, performed in a circle with joined hands, following the rhythm of a cobla, and symbolizing unity and equality among dancers. It also celebrates the city’s open, cheerful, and welcoming spirit. With over 90 years of history, this is the oldest aplec and one of the most anticipated events in the Catalan cultural calendar.
The sardanista spirit of Calella
Organised by the Agrupació Sardanista de Calella, the Aplec engages the entire city. For four days, festive energy takes over venues like Parc Dalmau, Passeig Manuel Puigvert, and Plaça de l’Ajuntament, where sardana dancers from all over Catalonia gather.
The programme begins on Thursday, May 29, with “La Prèvia: l’Aplec ens canta!”, a participatory concert at Café de la Sala Mozart, featuring artists such as Carles Belda, Glosa Caústica, Berta Llos, Esther Santos, and Jordi Molina. From Friday onwards, there will be auditions, parades, competitions, and family-friendly musical activities, including a spectacular night-time double performance by some of the top coblas in the country.
Full programme: music, tradition, and emotion
Friday, May 30, begins with a parade through Calella’s town centre, followed by the official opening speech and the first double performance by Principal del Llobregat and Bisbal Jove. On Saturday afternoon, Passeig Manuel Puigvert hosts a moving cobla music concert, featuring pieces celebrating local anniversaries and Catalan musical heritage. In the evening, the two coblas return to the stage with a vibrant selection of sardanes such as “El bullici de Santa Creu”, “Somni de plaça”, and “Record de Terrassa”.
On Sunday, June 1, the Aplec starts with the traditional Diada d’Aplec, held morning and afternoon in the Pati de l’Ós in Parc Dalmau. Coblas including La Marinada, Principal del Llobregat, Principal de la Bisbal, and Els Montgrins will perform more than 40 sardanes. There will also be an improvised group contest, a popular vote for the year’s best sardana, and a small artisan fair organised by Petits Creadors.
