Looking for things to do on Halloween in Calella?
On 31 October 2026, Calella will once again be hosting a night packed with activities to enjoy with family, friends or in fancy dress. During the day, you can take part in children’s activities and the traditional Castañada, whilst in the afternoon and evening there will be events more closely linked to Halloween and the All Saints’ Day tradition, such as ‘Trick or Treat’, travelling shows, the Hunt for Souls, the Procession of Souls and a night-time party.
In Catalonia, Halloween coexists with a tradition of its own: the Castañada.
If you’d like to experience a night with a difference during your holiday, staying at a hotel in Calella allows you to enjoy the activities organised in the town and then return to your hotel without having to travel to another town.
Halloween and Castañada: two traditions in Calella
Halloween has become one of the most popular celebrations in October. Fancy dress, sweets, scary stories and parties are all part of this celebration, which has spread all over the world.
In Catalonia, however, this time of year is also linked to the Castañada, a traditional celebration associated with All Saints’ Day.
During this time, it’s common to find chestnuts, sweet potatoes and panellets – one of the most characteristic sweets of this festival, made mainly from almonds and sugar. So, if you visit Calella during Halloween, you can enjoy a very special combination: the Catalan tradition of the Castañada alongside activities inspired by Halloween and All Saints’ Day.
What to do in Calella at Halloween?
The programme scheduled for Saturday 31 October 2026 includes activities running practically all day long.
Here is the programme organised by time slots so you can plan your visit.
11.00 am – Creative children’s workshop on Castañada: The day will begin at 11.00 am in the Market Square with a creative children’s workshop on Castañada.
An activity designed especially for the little ones and a great way to start the day by getting to know one of the most characteristic traditions of this time of year in Catalonia.
5.00 pm – Trick-or-Treat in Calella: From 5.00 pm, children can take part in the traditional Trick-or-Treat at the shops belonging to the Calella Traders’ and Businesses’ Association that are taking part in the Halloween campaign.
If you’re travelling with children, this is one of the activities you might want to consider for an enjoyable family afternoon.
5.00 pm – Community Chestnut Festival: Also at 5.00 pm, the church square will host a community Chestnut Festival. During the event, there will be chestnuts, sweet potatoes and muscatel wine on sale, as well as music and a children’s workshop. The event is scheduled to run until 7.00 pm and children are encouraged to come in fancy dress. It’s a great opportunity to experience how the Castañada is celebrated in Catalonia and enjoy one of the day’s most traditional moments.
5.30 pm – La Familia Catrina Halloween: At 5.30 pm, the travelling show La Familia Catrina Halloween will begin in Calella’s shopping streets. The parade will start at the Town Hall square and bring the Halloween atmosphere to various shopping streets in the town centre. This is a particularly interesting activity if you want to combine a stroll through Calella with the Halloween atmosphere.
7.00 pm – Screening of “Marieta”: At 7.00 pm, the Josep-Maria Terricabras Auditorium will host a screening of the short film “Marieta”, by Calella-born Marçal Mora. This event also offers the chance to discover local talent and round off the day’s programme with a cultural activity.
9.45 pm – The Hunt for Souls: As night falls, the most terrifying part of the programme will begin. At 9.45 pm, from the Church Square, The Hunt for Souls will commence. A group of devil-like soul hunters will parade through the streets of Calella to the beat of drums until they reach the Pati de l’Ós in Parc Dalmau.
The planned route is:
Plaza de la Iglesia → Calle Església → Calle Sant Joan → underpass → Avenida del Parc → Pati de l’Ós
Participants are invited to come in All Saints’ Day-themed fancy dress. The event is organised by the Udols de Foc Diables de Calella Association.
10.15 pm – Procession of the Souls in Parc Dalmau: At 10.15 pm, the Pati de l’Ós in Parc Dalmau will host the opening spectacle of the Procession of the Souls.
Funeral beasts, devils and drummers will parade through the streets of Calella in one of the most spectacular moments of the evening.
The planned route is:
Parc Dalmau → the N-II at the junction with Carrer Miquel Cuní → burning of the creatures in the Mercat II car park → Carrer Bruguera → Carrer Sant Joan → Carrer Sant Antoni → Carrer de les Ànimes → Plaça Conrad Prat
The evening will also feature two guest ‘beasts’:
- Nébula, from the Trinifoc devil troupe, based in the Trinitat Vella neighbourhood of Barcelona.
- Bitxo del Torrent Mitger, from Terrassa.
A final burning of the ‘beasts’ is scheduled to take place in Plaza Conrad Prat.
If you’re attending the show, please remember to follow the organisers’ safety instructions at all times and maintain the recommended distance from the devils and the fire figures.
11.30 pm – All Souls’ Night Party: To round off the evening, from 23:30, the multi-purpose hall at the Fàbrica Llobet will host the All Souls’ Night party: “El Purgatorio”, featuring DJ Dani Monroy. An event for those who wish to continue the Halloween celebrations in Calella well into the night.
The organisers encourage attendees to come in All Saints’ Day-themed fancy dress.
