Here are some of the city’s most important cultural events:
Calella Renaissance Fair
The Renaissance Fair/Artisan Market is an event where the streets of the town center transform during these June days into a medieval setting, with crafts, traditions, street performances, tastings, and children’s activities.
A transformation that will let you discover, savor, and enjoy the cultural, gastronomic, and recreational traditions of that era.
International Band Festival
This international festival brings together classical and folk music bands, majorettes, Marching Show Bands, Brass Bands, musical entertainment groups, and accordion ensembles. For 11 days in June, the groups perform in various areas of Calella, showcasing their music. In addition, two parades bring all the bands together in Calella’s historic center.
Small Festa Major
The Festa Major of Saint Quirze and Saint Julita is celebrated on June 16. It is the town’s smaller festival, mainly held outdoors. Giants, parades, orchestras, music, puppets, theater, and countless activities welcome the summer season.
Calella Folklore Days
An international festival where dance, music, and spectacle are the highlights of these celebrations, which this year mark their 40th anniversary. Organized by Adifolk, an association dedicated to promoting and spreading traditional and popular art and culture worldwide. Each year, international groups arrive in Calella with their costumes, dances, music, and crafts to showcase their cultural traditions both in Calella and other towns in Catalonia.
They take place during the first half of September.
Calella Fair
At the Calella Fair, held every year during the Festa Major de la Minerva, visitors can discover and enjoy culture, art, gastronomy, crafts, and traditions over the course of its 4-day duration. Exhibitions, showcases, performances, and concerts are among the activities that make the Calella Fair an increasingly renowned event. There is also an amusement park for children (and those young at heart!).
The Fair is held along the Manuel Puigvert Promenade, less than a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
Large Festa Major
During the Festa Major days, the streets fill with joy with the emblematic diades de gegants, a parade full of magic and culture that captivates both young and old. Fairs, parades, and evening concerts take center stage, bringing the community and visitors together in a unique festive atmosphere. A perfect time to experience the essence of Calella at its finest!
Aplec de la Sardana
The Sardana Association organizes this spectacular cultural showcase of the sardana in Calella. This gathering, considered the oldest in Catalonia as it dates back to 1926 and is known as the Aplec Pairal, brings together thousands of sardana enthusiasts in early June.
During that weekend, on Saturday afternoon at the Manuel Puigvert Promenade and Sunday at Parc Dalmau, Catalonia’s best coblas delight us with their music in a festive cultural atmosphere.
Additionally, every Sunday from late June to late September, sardana performances can be enjoyed at the Manuel Puigvert Promenade.
Oktoberfest
The Calella Oktoberfest has been a popular festival since 1987, held in October and organized in true German style on the Manuel Puigvert Promenade in Calella, with completely free admission.
