Calella Film Festival organises four film sessions on the beach during the month of August

This Thursday, 1 August, saw the launch of a new edition of the Calella Beach Festival, one of the summer traditions that has come to life in the town of Calella in recent years and which has caused a great sensation among the inhabitants of Calella. The festival, which was inaugurated in the summer of 2016, consists of an exhibition of films of various genres in the middle of Calella’s “Platja Gran”, where all its inhabitants can enjoy an evening at the cinema free of charge.

During these eight years of life, great cinema titles have been broadcasted, such as: La La Land, Annie, Knives Out or Yesterday; for the youngest, a wide range of films has also been offered, with films such as: Sing 2, Tadeo Jones 3 or Trolls. And this year, Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” will be included in the catalogue.

This summer’s broadcasts will take place every Thursday in August, with the exception of the 29th, and are completely free of charge. All you have to do is bring your dinner and you can sit in the sand with your family, friends or companions and enjoy the experience.

Nits d'Estiu

Summer Nights succeed in Calella

The festival of music and live shows is back for another season in Calella.

June 28th saw the opening of a new edition of the NEC (Nits d’Estiu a Calella), the festival of music and live shows that accompanies the Calella town during the summer season and brings together some of the most important names in the Catalan music industry.

This is the fourth year of the Calella festival, which began its activity in 2021 and has continued its line-up uninterruptedly until 2024. The mayor of the city, Marc Buch, defined the cultural proposal with these words: “a complete experience that we can live in the fresh air of a summer night with the moon as an exceptional witness in the intimacy of an immensely small space such as the lighthouse of Calella”. The festival, which is held at night and in the open air, is the ideal place to enjoy live music, as well as the best views in the town of Calella, thanks to the location of the lighthouse.

The lighthouse of Calella has hosted during these four years some renowned artists such as Blaumut, Ginestà, Lágrimas de Sangre, Maria de Mar Bonet or Elena Gadel, and this year has made no exception and continues to bring singers who are on everyone’s lips: Guillem Gisbert, Manu Guix or Mónica Green.

Jul102024

Calella is one of the most important cities on the Maresme coast. Located in the center of the region and at strategic distances from Barcelona and Girona, it has become one of the most important tourist ports in Catalonia. During the summer season, it grows almost a third of its population and this is due to the geography of this municipality: it has beaches, mountains, entertainment venues, restaurants...

But beyond that, Calella is also a cultural centre. For this reason we want to make a list with the three essential places you must visit if you want to get to know our city. Do you dare to do the route?

The 3 essentials in Calella

The lighthouse

The Calella lighthouse is one of the most emblematic places in the city. During the 17th and 18th centuries it served as a watchtower to protect the area from attacks by Algerian pirates. A century later, it was inaugurated as a lighthouse and has continued its activity ever since.

It is one of the main jewels of Calella thanks to its viewpoint and its panoramic views of the city. So much so that it has been used as a stage for live music festivals such as the NEC (Nits d’Estiu a Calella) which is taking place this summer and will date until September.

Les Torretes de Calella

The Torretes are one of the monuments that are part of Calella's artistic heritage. Located between the coasts of Calella and Sant Pol de Mar, they served as optical towers to send telegraphy messages. They were built in 1848 but due to the steam train arriving in the city in 1861 they fell into disuse. For this reason and the lack of maintenance, over time they have become damaged and in ruins.

They are located on the hill of Les Torretes and have panoramic views of the Calellan city that are worth admiring. Do you want to discover this historic corner?

El monument de la Sardana

This monument is located at the beginning of Passeig Manuel Puigvert and is one of the most memorable pieces in Calella. It was inaugurated in the eighties in honor of the Sardana, a traditional Catalan dance and symbol of Catalan identity and nationality. The monument rests on an octagonal pillar and dances and sardanas are often held around it, to commemorate the history of this dance.

Now that you have been able to learn about the history and functionality of these monuments, are you encouraged to visit them during your stay in Calella?
