Calella celebrates the 10th edition of the Ironman

The city of Calella renews, one more year, for one of the most important triathlons in Europe

Calella is a very important tourist destination in the Maresme. Every year it welcomes thousands of people from all over the world who come to visit its beaches and culture. But, despite standing out for summer tourism, it is also a city with much renown in terms of sports tourism: come October, every year the Ironman is held, a triathlon of more than 220 kilometers that combines swimming, cycling and running, and annually attracts more than 3,000 participants from 80 different countries in the municipality.

The “Ironman” races are a series of triathlons that take place around the world. They are recognized worldwide because each year they are held on an intercontinental scale and you can find them in Asia, Africa, America, Europe and Oceania. Many European countries have Ironman races: France, Germany, Switzerland, Finland… And among the various locations chosen is Calella.

Calella has been a venue for Ironman triathlons for the last nine years and this 2024 celebrates its tenth edition: 10 consecutive years where thousands of triathletes have been part of this renowned sporting event. For this reason, more than a hundred elite athletes have wanted to be part of this race and this Sunday, October 6, will prepare to be part of the Ironman experience.

On the occasion of the celebration, Agustí Pérez, Ironman regional director for Italy, Spain and Portugal communicated that this year we could expect new changes in terms of the course and celebrations: “We are excited to celebrate this tenth birthday that comes loaded with surprises and changes. From the organization we have made a very big effort to change the cycling and running circuit and have a series of parallel events that athletes will enjoy a lot, such as the parade of flags or a new registration access with a square with DJ. We are expecting a great party for this celebration and we hope that everything goes very well.”

Ironman in Hotel Bernat II:

The triathlon will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024, with a 17 hour time limit, and from Hotel Bernat II we would like to encourage all the athletes who have decided to stay with us for such an important event.
