Thanks to the frequent train services, you can travel to Barcelona from Calella on a journey that runs alongside the beaches whilst you sit back in comfort.
How to get to Barcelona from Calella?
Calella is connected to Barcelona by train via the R1/RG1 commuter line, which runs to Plaça de Catalunya with trains running at intervals of approximately 30 minutes.

By car, the distance is around 50 km, and you can also enjoy the journey along the Catalan coast in roughly the same time. However, parking in Barcelona can cost around €4.00 per hour. You can check the route here
Please note that to drive around Barcelona, you must have an environmental sticker (Zero, ECO, B or C), as most of the city is designated as a Low Emission Zone.
By coach, the Sagalés company operates a service between Calella and Barcelona on routes 603 or 618. The coach departs from outside the tourist information office and arrives at the Ronda de Sant Pere in Barcelona.
What to visit in Barcelona?
The city will captivate you from the very first moment. You could start your tour with a visit to Park Güell, a magical spot from which to enjoy views of the city, or to the iconic Sagrada Família, a masterpiece by Gaudí that is still under construction. Afterwards, take a stroll along Las Ramblas and explore the Gothic Quarter, with its narrow streets and medieval charm. If you’re an art lover, the Picasso Museum and the Joan Miró Foundation offer a fascinating insight into these great artists.
If you’d like to get a feel for the city without walking too far, we recommend taking the Tourist Bus, which allows you to hop on and off as often as you like, either on the same route or by changing buses at the connection points between the two routes. It runs from 09:00 to 19:00 every day except 1 January and 25 December.
Practical tips for your visit to Barcelona
- Buy a return ticket at Calella Rodalies station.
- Book your tickets in advance and arrive at least 15–20 minutes early, as there may be queues to get in at weekends, on public holidays or during peak season.
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
